If you are interested in buying a tankless water heater, besides reading a tankless water heater review there are a few other aspects that you are going to need to take into consideration as well.

What Type? When To Choose A Propane Tankless Water Heater

One of the biggest decisions that you are going to have to make is what type of water heater you are going to need. You can choose to have either an electric or propane tankless water heater. There are both pros and cons to each, but the propane tankless water heater tends to come out on top in most cases.

Benefits

There are quite a few benefits offered by the propane tankless water heater.

For one, a propane tankless water heater will be able to recover hot water twice as quickly as their electric counterparts.

> Go Green with Energy Efficient products

That means that in the long term, by opting for a propane water heater you will end up saving yourself a great deal of money. Since propane is extracted from crude oil and processed from natural gas, the price of propane follows the price of these energy commodities, and this refers in particular to the cost of crude oil.

This can be both a good and bad thing but overall the prices for crude oil and the cost of natural gas have been steadily rising which means that you may end up paying more than you expect.

Keep in mind that while propane is produced year-round, the demand for propane is highly seasonal and causes inventories to increase when demand is low which is usually in the summer, and decrease when the demand is higher which is usually in the winter.

Tips

If you decide to go with a propane tankless water heater, here are a few tips that you should keep in mind. For one, when using a water heater you should turn it down from the standard 140 degrees to 130 degrees, and as a result you could end up saving as much as 10% and even more on your water heating bill.

Another helpful tip is to make sure that your attic and basement are properly insulated. This can end up saving you a great deal of money on your water heating bill.

Protect against drafts in your home by caulking and weather-stripping around the windows, doors and other openings in the house.

These tips will all be very helpful and ensure that you pay as little as possible on your water heating bill every month.

Is propane is a clean burning fuel and a good alternative for other more traditional fossil fuels?

The current fuel options on the market range from the fossil fuels we’ve been using for many years to the hybrid electric cars now made by all auto manufacturers. There are many other potential fuels as well such as biofuel and ethanol that can now be a realistic way to power your engine. Propane may not sound like much of an alternative to petroleum but it actually is.

Most of us already make use of propane for cooking on barbecues or to power outdoor accessories. Though some people have propane vehicles, it isn’t as common as petroleum.

Propane is a gas that is converted to a liquid form in order for it to be used. It must be converted so that it is in a portable form and can then be put in tanks and moved. Though propane is derived from fossil fuels, it tends to be much safer. It is perfectly safe for heating homes instead of using natural gas. It may be wise to consider using it for vehicles as well since propane clearly does have some advantages. When compared to natural gas for cooking it proves to be cleaner burning and leaves food much more flavorful.

Propane is given an additive, a certain type of alcohol called ethanethiol. This gives the propane a very distinct scent so that it can easily be detected in the event of a spill or leak. Overall propane is relatively nontoxic. If it is abused as an inhalant it could become very deadly but with proper use it is quite harmless. Another advantage of propane use is that it is often cheaper than gas and tends to last longer with normal driving. It can be a change that eases the tension on your wallet.

A propane powered vehicle might not get as much power as a gas engine but most owners claim not to notice a difference. An added safety benefit is that a propane tank is much stronger than a gas tank and therefore is more resistant to any form of damage such as punctures. Some people make the decision to convert their gasoline car over to propane. This can be done though it does cost thousands of dollars. If you plan to do something like this, be sure to see a professional so it is done correctly.

It’s important to really consider why you want to make the switch to propane

Either way, it is still a fossil fuel and regardless, most fossil fuels are bad for the earth and they are not renewable resources.

On the other hand propane is also regarded as clean and environmentally friendly because its vapor doesn’t cause air pollution and is not harmful if accidentally inhaled and because propane doesn’t pollute drinking water or damage water or soil based ecosystems. In addition it is non-toxic and isn’t counted amongst the greenhouse gases except for emissions from propane combustion and here the level of damaging emissions following LP Gas combustion is well below other carbon based fuels used in vehicles and engines today, well within the requirements for clean fuel vehicles.

Propane fuel is listed as an approved clean fuel by the U.S. Government and it can help to reduce the smog effects created by the use of other combustible fuels such as petrol and diesel

Fueling up can be an issue. You will likely have to make note of each gas station that has propane, not all of them do. If your goal is simply to save a little money then propane may be a great option for you. However, if you wish to make a difference on a global scale then a hybrid or flex fuel may be preferable. Do your research on all fuel types so you know what you’re really dealing with. Information is a major component of going green.

The use of propane has greatly increased over the years

There are several factors for this. In some cases natural gas lines are not available in certain areas. There are no other options that are available. In some cases propane has become of the fuel of choice.

This is especially true when home owners want to avoid an all electric home and cut back on some of the cost of using other fuel alternatives. If you decide to use propane as a fuel source for your home you must consider propane tanks and all of the details that are associated with installation.

Of course propane tanks are necessary to hold and store your fuel source. They are available in many different sizes but all of the construction is just about the same. Most of them are stored above the ground because it is less costly and provides easy access.

>> See a selection of propane bbq grills here

You can store them under ground but it will cost you more money and the access to the tank becomes a problem in some cases. The homeowner can purchase a tank on average from 500 gallons to 1000 gallons. Keep in mind that a tank can not be filled to capacity. You must leave room at the top for expansion of the propane gas. A good rule to follow is to fill it only to eighty percent of capacity. This will ensure safety and security for your tank.

Make sure to contact your local gas supplier when thinking about using propane. They will be able to provide you will solid and accurate details on the system you will need for propane gas usage. They will give you advice on the size of propane tanks and what you need for your home according to what you are going to use for your system. These professionals offer the best advice as to a plan of action and can provide you with the help you need.

There is no doubt that propane is a good source of fuel and provide many homes with an alternative source of power and energy. Putting in a propane system for your home is not difficult and it is not unreasonable in cost. You can investigate the possibilities for your home with a little research and by talking with your local gas supplier.

Natural gas has a wide range application because of its high octane power. In a number of countries the use of propane or auto gas is gaining a great following among automobile users as the third most used vehicle fuel after diesel and petrol.

The propane is and odorless, nontoxic flammable hydrocarbon compound made up of a chain of three carbon attach to eight hydrogen elements. This complex mix is also called alkenes that when completely burnt up in extra oxygen will produce water, carbon dioxide and energy of fifty mega joule for every kilogram of propane.

Propane is available as gas but to be used in vehicle it is usually liquefied and mixed with other compounds such as butane and propylene. This makes it portable and potent in terms of the energy it generates.

Other compounds odorant compounds are added to make it easier to detect gas leaks. What makes propane a good alternative vehicle fuel is that it is not messy as diesel and produces less carbon deposit, which means less engine wear and oil changes.

Propane releases less carbon monoxide, toxins and smog than their gasoline when used as vehicle fuel

Safety

A number of individuals promote use of propane as fuel for vehicles since it performs the same as gasoline on new or well maintained vehicle. The liquefied propane is stored under modest pressure making the refueling task as quick as a gasoline refill. Furthermore, there are other propane refueling options for natural gas vehicle fuel enthusiast who can modify their automobiles to use the readily available propane cylinders during emergency. In terms of safety, propane tanks are designed to operate under extreme conditions. The tanks can resist puncture twenty times and up to four times operating pressure. While when it come to operation, propane powered engines have lower maintenance cost due to less wear and tear of parts.

Convenience

When it comes to convenience vehicles that use propane have the same engine and transmission parts. However, they have a different fuel storage and distribution system. Propane powered cars have high pressure fuel tanks that can take stress of over 200PSI before they fracture. In addition, their fuel distribution system has a special pressure storage tank that ensures the engine deliver steady performance even as the fuel pressure continues to declines on the main tank. To ensure that one gets the best performance from their propane engine, they need to inspect and repair their fuel system to keep it in top shape.

A present there are a number of propane powered vehicles being used worldwide. Unofficial estimates indicate that close to nine million vehicles are fueled by propane. Some of the automobiles come ready made from the manufacturers, while a growing number are able to use propane after a relatively affordable conversion process. The cost of fuel propane may be similar to that of gasoline but they give a much lower power performance because they are less dense than gasoline. Propane gives users fuel economy.

Portable propane

Propane heaters make great portable heaters, if used carefully and according to instructions. They’re great to use in the home, especially if you’re just needing to heat up a room that doesn’t have central heating for example, and they’re also very useful items to use at fishing lodges, in the garage or workshop, or even to heat up a tent when camping. They are also well designed to operate safely in moist greenhouse environments

Small portable propane heaters are often cheaper to run than the same sized or same output electric ones, which makes them a fairly popular all-round heater to use. They have the added ability of being able to operate even when there is no electricity, which is a plus especially if in a situation where the electricity is unstable or tends to go off from time to time.

You can buy propane heaters specifically designed to fit into a garage. These units look a bit like the older window airconditioning units. They can fit in either a top window or just attach to the wall. The plus with these is that they’re up and out of the way, leaving you with optimum work space and a well heated environment.

Propane patio heaters

One of the favourite uses for this type of heater is to use it outside on the patio, for outdoor heating. Propane patio heaters can be moved around to any location. Heat generated from the mushroom style head usually flows downward in a type of circular motion, heating the air all around them. You do need to sit fairly close to them to feel their warmth but if you sit too close you might find yourself uncomfortably hot as they work very well at close range.

They are not to be used in a small, closed space though as they give off dangerous carbon monoxide fumes which can be lethal. So, if you’re planning on using a propane gas heater make sure that the room is well ventilated before turning the heater on.

Most gas fired tankless heaters require a special, triple wall flue pipe, that could easily cost more than the heater itself.

We generally leave the water heater on when we are encamped…it’s just more convenient for us…and we figure we don’t use any more propane gas to keep the water hot than we would if we turned it on just when we wanted hot water.

Tips on how to choose and fit propane tanks to cars

There are two primary sizes of propane tanks for propane conversion kits on domestic cars. These two sizes include an 8 gallon and a 10 gallon tank.

Both of these tanks will use the same brackets for installation into your vehicles. The width of the two tanks is the same size. The 10 gallon tank is just a little bit longer than the 8 gallon tank.

Propane Conversion Kits For Domestic Cars – Which Tank Should I Use?

The tanks for the propane conversion kits for domestic cars come in a lightweight aluminum. Brand new tanks cost anywhere from $135 to $150. Once you purchased the tank you shouldn’t need to buy another one for years or if you ever need another one at all. The great thing is that even if you have two tanks to fill you will pay less than $25 to fill both of them. You could never fill two car gas tanks with gasoline for less than $25.

Mounting propane conversion kits for domestic cars is another consideration. Be sure you have the length of space for the bigger tanks if you want more propane. You should never mount the tanks in an enclosed area. If you have a trunk in your vehicle then take the trunk off and create a space that is not enclosed. There is never a safe place in a vehicle to put propane tanks but enclosed will be the biggest hazard and should never be done.

Propane tanks for propane conversion kits should be installed with consideration to the size of your vehicle and where you intend on putting the tanks. There are two sizes of tanks you can use for your kit and they will cost you next to nothing to fill.

A car runs on petrol, then on alternative diesel and now another option is propane

Natural gas has a wide range application because of its high octane power. In a number of countries the use of propane or auto gas is gaining a great following among automobile users as the third most used vehicle fuel after diesel and petrol.

The propane is an odorless, nontoxic flammable hydrocarbon compound made up of a chain of three carbon attach to eight hydrogen elements.

What makes propane a good alternative vehicle fuel is that it is not messy as diesel and produces less carbon deposit, which means less engine ware and oil changes. In addition, propane releases less carbon monoxide, toxins and smog than their gasoline when used as vehicle fuel.

A number of individuals promote use of propane as fuel for vehicles since it performs the same as gasoline on new or well maintained vehicles.

At present there are a number of propane powered vehicles are being used worldwide.

Vehicles that run on propane were typically manufactured to run on gasoline and later converted. A vehicle can be converted to run solely on propane (mono-fuel) or to run on both propane and gasoline (the more popular dual-fuel).

Conversion to a dedicated propane or bi-fuel propane vehicle can be attractive when fueling infrastructure is in place and volume fuel discounts are available.
Propane, known as the alternative fuel, is becoming more and more popular amongst householders today

Many home owners and individuals are turning to propane as an alternative fuel source. The use of propane has gained a lot of popularity over the years especially with the high price of electricity and other fuels.

Although the concept of going “green” is a good one it has not been perfected yet and remains expensive to use wind and solar power for home. It also does not work everywhere and becomes a matter of practicality.

One of the consideration you will have to make to what to do about propane tanks for my situation. Your best help and advice will come from your gas supplier who can provide you with the exact data you need to make the right choices.

The fact is that propane tanks come in many different sizes, small large and so on, and you will have to know your usage estimate before you lease or buy a a new or used propnane tank. A common size tank is 500 gallons but there are larger tanks if you are going to be using more fuel than just for the odd barbecue or are in a harsh and cold climate. Most likely you can lease any size tank for about one hundred dollars a month and but the same size tank for about a total cost of 1100 dollars. The choice will be up to you.

Most home owners store their propane tanks above ground. It is much easier and cheaper to do it this way then to have the expense of placing them underground. Many individuals then build a “closet” around their tank to make it look attractive and to place the tank out of sight. You will also have to use copper piping to run the propane from the tank to the house. This must be placed about two feet under the surface and 5/8 inch piping is generally used. Your gas supplier will do this work for you. Most suppliers charge by the foot to put in your propane gas line. You will also want to protect the area where your tank is stored. Easy access is important so that it may be filled without any interference.

Remember that you can only fill your tank to about eighty percent of capacity. You must leave room at the top of the tank for expansion. When you get below twenty percent of capacity you should have your tank refilled.

Like other alternative fuels, propane has its drawbacks. One of the primary market barriers keeping propane from gaining prominence as an attractive alternative fuel for the average consumer is the cost to convert a gas tank

Here are a few informative tips about using propane tanks at home

It is important to know information about propane tanks before you go out and buy one. Your best source of information is going to come from your gas supplier. They can provide you all the details to make a good consumer decision on your tank.

They know about things like usage, installation, pipe lines, storage, and safety precautions. You will need to know and understand all of this before you put propane gas to use in your home. Doing a little research and investigation is going to save you time and money.

Most of the gas suppliers will be happy to lend you a helping hand with your project. After all, they want your business when you start to have your tank filled.

Most of the time propane tanks are stored above ground. This is just a practical application for the ease of access to your tank. It is also much less costly to store it above ground then to go through the expense of placing and storing a tank underground. Many home owners will build a “closet” around their tank to make it look attractive and not to draw attention to an open tank.

Piping must be used from the tank to your home to carry the propane to its destination. Generally the piping will be 5/8 inch copper and will have to be placed two feet below the ground surface. You gas supplier can do this for you and will most likely charge on a per foot basis. There are many different sizes of propane tanks that are available depending on your usage and your preference on how often you want to have your tank refilled. Your gas supplier will be able to calculate all of these figures for you and give you the data you need to make a good decision about tank size.

You also may want to consider placing a one inch piece of PVC pipe at the point where your piping leaves the propane tank for extra protection. Because copper piping is soft and this small piece is exposed it may be easily damaged by anyone working near this area with a rake or garden tool. It is better to protect it from damage then leaving it exposed. You really do not have to worry about the construction of propane tanks because of the modern design and technology that is now used in building these storage tanks.

When the propane tank runs out, there must be a replacement readily available for uninterrupted cooking. You can also get propane tanks refilled with a local supplier, and this is not a costly affair. Propane barbecue grills are inexpensive … Because outdoor temperatures will determine cooking time, you cannot bank on on time alone. There are many recipes floating around but they cannot be applied across the board.

You could also have a company install a tank and refill it when needed. It will be cheaper to haul it to get it filled yourself but you should only do so if you have a truck to transport it in. It should be standing upright in the back of … Again, contact a professional and determine if that size tank is large enough to provide the vapor needed to operate the appliances. Hope this helps. mountain. 29 July, 2009, 20:54. The easiest thing to do is contact the gas company

So be aware that you might be getting 11 to 12 percent less propane for the money when you exchange your propane tank. If you refill your own tank(s), ask the propane supplier to put the usual 17 to 18 pounds of gas in the tank. … Some grills are fitted with scales to help you determine how much propane is left in the tank.
Here are some facts about propane and its uses

Propane is a gas that can be compressed into a liquid form for transportation. This three-carbon alkane is derived during the processing of oil or natural gas. Propane is a popular fuel for portable stoves, engines, barbecues and central heating systems.

Facts about Propane: Chemical Properties

The LPG or LP gas that we are conversant with, is a mixture propane, propylene, butylene and butane. The odor is emitted by ethanethiol, an additive to prevent wanton leakage.

Propane burns to form carbon dioxide and water, in the presence of excess oxygen. It is heavier than air and in the raw, unprocessed state, with a density of nearly 1.5 times that of air, propane sinks to the ground. Liquid propane evaporates at atmospheric pressure. Under proper combustion, propane produces 91 megajoules per cubic meter.

Physical Properties:

Propane is a three-carbon alkane, non-toxic in nature. When inhaled deliberately, it causes asphyxiation or oxygen deprivation. Commercial products that contain propane and hydrocarbons increase this risk. Propane is stored at room temperature, under pressure. The sudden expansion and cooling on release is known to cause frostbite. Propane combustion is clean and the C-C bonds, along with those of propylene and butylene, generate organic exhaust. Propane burns with a clear, visible flame.

Propane Facts:

Propane was first identified by Dr. Walter Snelling, in 1910. Dr. Snelling worked with liquefied gas and discovered that a bottle full of propane was sufficient to light a home for three weeks!

He invented ways to liquefy the LP gas while refining of natural oil. His production of pure propane in 1911 was issued a patent. Propane is a commonly preferred cooking fuel, also used in vehicles. It’s low boiling point of −43.6F enables a vaporization on release, rendering it safe for transportation and as a compressant within pressurized containers.

This property eliminates the need for a vaporizing device. It fuels forklifts, locomotives and heavy ice resurfacing machines. It also powers water heaters and other heating appliances. Commercially marketed propane fuel contains 90% propane and 10% butane, propylene and odorants.

The fuel propane is transported via large tanks and service trucks.

It is compressed within cylinders or transported from the excavation site via a pipeline to the nearest delivery plant. Consumers get their supply of the fuel in individual tanks of varying sizes. Propane heaters are quickly replacing traditional ones fueled by fossil fuel. Industries are now using propane in brick kilns, glass manufacturing units and similar industries that use heat-blasts.

Propane blends with isopropane to fuel a refrigerator that works on gas absorption. The mixture has a greatly reduced ozone depletion effect and successfully replaces chlorofluorocarbon and hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants. This ability makes it a great replacement as an alternative fuel in refrigerators and air conditioners.

Propane is the third choice in vehicle fuels, after gasoline and diesel. The autogas vehicles make optimum use of propane in the liquid state.

Quicker refills, increased cost effectiveness and cleaner handling makes it a popular choice. The fuel is a byproduct of two natural gas processing and refining of petroleum.

It involves removal of butane and large amounts of ethane, alongside propane. Oil refineries also produce propane while processing ‘crack’ petroleum.

Propane gas helps to save a lot on energy bills. It is not only cleaner than most other fuels, but also one of the most environment friendly source of energy. It is recognized within the ‘Clean Air Act Amendments’ of 1990.
