If you are interested in buying a tankless water heater, besides reading a tankless water heater review there are a few other aspects that you are going to need to take into consideration as well.

What Type? When To Choose A Propane Tankless Water Heater

One of the biggest decisions that you are going to have to make is what type of water heater you are going to need. You can choose to have either an electric or propane tankless water heater. There are both pros and cons to each, but the propane tankless water heater tends to come out on top in most cases.

Benefits

There are quite a few benefits offered by the propane tankless water heater.

For one, a propane tankless water heater will be able to recover hot water twice as quickly as their electric counterparts.

> Go Green with Energy Efficient products

That means that in the long term, by opting for a propane water heater you will end up saving yourself a great deal of money. Since propane is extracted from crude oil and processed from natural gas, the price of propane follows the price of these energy commodities, and this refers in particular to the cost of crude oil.

This can be both a good and bad thing but overall the prices for crude oil and the cost of natural gas have been steadily rising which means that you may end up paying more than you expect.

Keep in mind that while propane is produced year-round, the demand for propane is highly seasonal and causes inventories to increase when demand is low which is usually in the summer, and decrease when the demand is higher which is usually in the winter.

Tips

If you decide to go with a propane tankless water heater, here are a few tips that you should keep in mind. For one, when using a water heater you should turn it down from the standard 140 degrees to 130 degrees, and as a result you could end up saving as much as 10% and even more on your water heating bill.

Another helpful tip is to make sure that your attic and basement are properly insulated. This can end up saving you a great deal of money on your water heating bill.

Protect against drafts in your home by caulking and weather-stripping around the windows, doors and other openings in the house.

These tips will all be very helpful and ensure that you pay as little as possible on your water heating bill every month.

There are numerous reasons that some homeowners are choosing a propane water heater, primarily one among them is the cost of operation as well as recovery time.

Propane Water Heater More Cost Effective To Operate

Most households with a propane water heater do not have other choices available to supply their home’s hot water and if natural gas is not one of them, they usually select gas over electric.

Free Shipping on consumer favorites like Kohler, Moen, Danze, Clawfoot Bathtubs, Vanities, Pumps, and much more at PlumberSurplus.com

Cost Reduction

Generally speaking, a propane water heater will cost approximately 30 percent less to run compared to an electric water heater and the recovery rate is roughly twice as fast. Because they are also available in s variety of sizes, they offer an assortment of installation options.

It is also claimed that they require smaller space requirements and many venting options. In addition, their use in instant heat hot water heaters helps familys save even more money.

Studies have demonstrated that approximately 20 percent of the cost to heat hot water is lost in keeping the water hot when there is no immediate demand. A propane water heater for tankless systems heats the water only at the time it is required, lowering the annual cost for hot water.

Demand is an additional concern as tankless on demand systems will provide, based on its size, between five and seven gallons of hot water each minute. A tank supply system can output quite a bit more than that.

Propane Water Heater Heats More Water Faster

One of the main benefits of a propane water heater is that it can heat more water, much faster than a traditional electric hot water heater and your storage tank for propane is normally outside of the residence. An electric water tank might need up to an hour to recover and reheat 40 gallons of hot water, whereas a propane water heater might recover a similar amount in roughly half the time.

One of the downsides is that with an electric water heater there is no requirement to vent the burner from the heat source, which is one of the requirements with a propane water heater. The needed space around the heater can also be much less as no allowance for any of the flames from the bottom of the tank has to be made.

In the case of an electric hot water heater, they are wired into the house’s electrical system and piped into the water supply lines. A propane water heater will also become an integral part 1000 of the water supply system, as well as having a propane gas line run between the water and the propane storage tanks.

Propane heaters and propane patio heaters have various features and styles so spend a little time researching before you decide to make a purchase. You may even want to simply hire a patio heater if you only use it infrequently

You should examine the features offered and see if they include things like built in spark ignition and adjustable heat control. Other features you may want to consider are if the heater has a wheel kit and how many BTU’s it puts out.A heater can be portable.

The built in spark ignition makes starting the heater much easier. So easy in fact that all you have to do is turn on the gas and push the button. Adjustable heat control lets you control how much heat comes out of your heater. This also allows for the most efficient use of fuel because you are not using more heat than you need. If you are planning on moving your heater around it is a good idea to look for a model with a built in wheel kit.

You also need to pay attention to the heaters heating diameter and BTU’s. The BTU’s, or British thermal units, is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of water one degree. The more BTU’s the heater produces the more heat you can get out of it. The heater’s heating diameter is how big of an area can be heated. This is dependant upon the design of the heater. A propane heater with high BTU’s but a bad design could actually heat a smaller space than one with lower BTU’s but better design. Check the package or the websites information for both of these figures before you purchase.

Portable propane

Propane heaters make great portable heaters, if used carefully and according to instructions. They’re great to use in the home, especially if you’re just needing to heat up a room that doesn’t have central heating for example, and they’re also very useful items to use at fishing lodges, in the garage or workshop, or even to heat up a tent when camping. They are also well designed to operate safely in moist greenhouse environments

Small portable propane heaters are often cheaper to run than the same sized or same output electric ones, which makes them a fairly popular all-round heater to use. They have the added ability of being able to operate even when there is no electricity, which is a plus especially if in a situation where the electricity is unstable or tends to go off from time to time.

You can buy propane heaters specifically designed to fit into a garage. These units look a bit like the older window airconditioning units. They can fit in either a top window or just attach to the wall. The plus with these is that they’re up and out of the way, leaving you with optimum work space and a well heated environment.

Propane patio heaters

One of the favourite uses for this type of heater is to use it outside on the patio, for outdoor heating. Propane patio heaters can be moved around to any location. Heat generated from the mushroom style head usually flows downward in a type of circular motion, heating the air all around them. You do need to sit fairly close to them to feel their warmth but if you sit too close you might find yourself uncomfortably hot as they work very well at close range.

They are not to be used in a small, closed space though as they give off dangerous carbon monoxide fumes which can be lethal. So, if you’re planning on using a propane gas heater make sure that the room is well ventilated before turning the heater on.

Most gas fired tankless heaters require a special, triple wall flue pipe, that could easily cost more than the heater itself.

We generally leave the water heater on when we are encamped…it’s just more convenient for us…and we figure we don’t use any more propane gas to keep the water hot than we would if we turned it on just when we wanted hot water.

Why not go green and choose a propane hot water heater

An alternative to the highly used system of electric water heaters is the Propane water heater system. These systems offer many benefits. Read on to learn more.

There are numerous reasons that some homeowners are choosing a propane water heater, primarily among them is the cost of operation as well as recovery time.

Propane Water Heater More Cost Effective To Operate

Most households with a propane water heater do not have choices available to supply their home’s hot water and if natural gas is not one of them, they usually select gas over electric.

Cost Reduction

Generally speaking, a propane water heater will cost approximately 30 percent less to run compared to an electric water heater and the recovery rate is roughly twice as fast.

Because they are also available in a variety of sizes, they offer an assortment of installation options.

Demand is an additional concern as tank less on demand systems will provide, based on its size, between five and seven gallons of hot water each minute.

One of the downsides is with an electric water heater there is no requirement to vent the burner from the heat source, which is one of the requirements with a propane water heater. The needed space around the heater can also be much less as no allowance for any of the flames from the bottom of the tank has to be made.

In the case of an electric hot water heater, they are wired into the house’s electrical system and piped into the water supply lines. A propane water heater will also become an integral part of the water supply system, as well as having a propane gas line run between the water and the propane storage tanks.

Fireplaces, water heaters and cooking ranges are all relatively small burners of 45000 btu or so. That pool heater is likely 150000 btu’s.
What if you could eat outside and stay warm at the same time …

The patio outside your home ought to be a distinctive place for you and your visitors to calm down and live trouble-free. It should be an inviting and pleasant refuge with nearly all things as ideal as achievable.

Propane Heater Choices For Your Patio

Some studies have shown that the majority of the population actually prefers eating outside rather than inside. Enjoying meals outdoors where the air is fresh and the view is better appears to be more pleasurable than dining inside.

One ever-present potential problem though is the weather, which can make trying to eat outdoors down right miserable. However there are some actions you can take to ameliorate this problem. There are solutions available to counter those chilly evenings that follow what began as a warm sunny day.

An outdoor propane patio heater will add several hours to the amount of time that you can comfortably enjoy being outdoors. This will allow you to take advantage of your patio into the late evening and later into the fall season, as well as earlier in the spring. As you start searching for the best outdoor propane patio heater for you, you will find a wide range of designs to be had and should take into consideration this next list of suggestions to assist you in choosing the most appropriate heater for your situation.

Number one, you have to figure out which general design is best for your situation. An in-ground heater with an underground gas connection that is permanently affixed in-place might be a good option if you happen to live someplace where it is almost always cold, like way up in the Rockies or something.

Another, and much more practical option would be to use a portable propane patio heater. They are much easier to use than installing something permanent, and would likely be the best choice. In addition to being convenient, portable patio heaters are also fairly inexpensive.

Second, you want to figure out the amount of heat that your patio area will need. The warming area of most propane patio heaters is generally listed by the length of the radius out from the unit, since they tend to heat in a circular pattern.

You should select a convenient location in the middle of the area you are trying to warm up as the place where the heating unit will sit and measure the distance from that point out to the perimeter of the edge of the circle you intend to warm. This will be the heating radius you need to look for.

Third, you should consider what style of patio heater would work best for you. Do you want something that stands out and draws attention to itself with its own unique look or would you prefer something unobtrusive that almost blends in with your other furnishings?

Modern propane patio heaters are available in a myriad of shapes and colors. You can choose from bright-colored modern designs, stylish mute-toned heaters and even some that can be disguised and hard to spot.

You don’t need to be concerned about safety with today’s modern outdoor propane heaters. Just follow the directions and heed the warnings that come with the heater. Today’s propane heaters come with shut-off switches that operate automatically. The unit turns off when the preset temperature is reached, and then restarts after the area cools down.

Some of the more common styles of patio heaters you may like to familiarize yourself with are:

Free-standing heaters – these are portable and can be placed wherever heat is needed most. They can warm an area with up to a 20-foot radius.

Tabletop patio heaters – these small units are placed directly on your patio table to keep everyone sitting at the table nice and warm. They are very convenient and can easily be transported to different areas with no trouble at all.

Hanging or wall-mounted heaters – these can hang on a wall or from the ceiling to heat everyone below.

In-ground outdoor propane heaters – these are the in-ground permanently installed units that require an underground gas line. Their greatest benefit though is that they eliminate the need for refillable propane tanks.

Here are some facts about propane and its uses

Propane is a gas that can be compressed into a liquid form for transportation. This three-carbon alkane is derived during the processing of oil or natural gas. Propane is a popular fuel for portable stoves, engines, barbecues and central heating systems.

Facts about Propane: Chemical Properties

The LPG or LP gas that we are conversant with, is a mixture propane, propylene, butylene and butane. The odor is emitted by ethanethiol, an additive to prevent wanton leakage.

Propane burns to form carbon dioxide and water, in the presence of excess oxygen. It is heavier than air and in the raw, unprocessed state, with a density of nearly 1.5 times that of air, propane sinks to the ground. Liquid propane evaporates at atmospheric pressure. Under proper combustion, propane produces 91 megajoules per cubic meter.

Physical Properties:

Propane is a three-carbon alkane, non-toxic in nature. When inhaled deliberately, it causes asphyxiation or oxygen deprivation. Commercial products that contain propane and hydrocarbons increase this risk. Propane is stored at room temperature, under pressure. The sudden expansion and cooling on release is known to cause frostbite. Propane combustion is clean and the C-C bonds, along with those of propylene and butylene, generate organic exhaust. Propane burns with a clear, visible flame.

Propane Facts:

Propane was first identified by Dr. Walter Snelling, in 1910. Dr. Snelling worked with liquefied gas and discovered that a bottle full of propane was sufficient to light a home for three weeks!

He invented ways to liquefy the LP gas while refining of natural oil. His production of pure propane in 1911 was issued a patent. Propane is a commonly preferred cooking fuel, also used in vehicles. It’s low boiling point of −43.6F enables a vaporization on release, rendering it safe for transportation and as a compressant within pressurized containers.

This property eliminates the need for a vaporizing device. It fuels forklifts, locomotives and heavy ice resurfacing machines. It also powers water heaters and other heating appliances. Commercially marketed propane fuel contains 90% propane and 10% butane, propylene and odorants.

The fuel propane is transported via large tanks and service trucks.

It is compressed within cylinders or transported from the excavation site via a pipeline to the nearest delivery plant. Consumers get their supply of the fuel in individual tanks of varying sizes. Propane heaters are quickly replacing traditional ones fueled by fossil fuel. Industries are now using propane in brick kilns, glass manufacturing units and similar industries that use heat-blasts.

Propane blends with isopropane to fuel a refrigerator that works on gas absorption. The mixture has a greatly reduced ozone depletion effect and successfully replaces chlorofluorocarbon and hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants. This ability makes it a great replacement as an alternative fuel in refrigerators and air conditioners.

Propane is the third choice in vehicle fuels, after gasoline and diesel. The autogas vehicles make optimum use of propane in the liquid state.

Quicker refills, increased cost effectiveness and cleaner handling makes it a popular choice. The fuel is a byproduct of two natural gas processing and refining of petroleum.

It involves removal of butane and large amounts of ethane, alongside propane. Oil refineries also produce propane while processing ‘crack’ petroleum.

Propane gas helps to save a lot on energy bills. It is not only cleaner than most other fuels, but also one of the most environment friendly source of energy. It is recognized within the ‘Clean Air Act Amendments’ of 1990.

The legislation has a window of opportunity and if you replace those old energy draining appliances with super-efficient and clean propane appliances you’ll save money at both the time of purchase and also every month

Purchasing a used propane storage tank versus a new one not only saves the customer money, it is also a large form of recycling and being “Green” as the steel is reused without exhausting the energy required to lift, transport, … Having more capacity also gives the consumer more buying power and the ability to save money during times when propane may be priced lower. This additional storage may also give the consumer the ability to ride out tough demand times
